Concrete surface preparation is a process to remove a thin layer of concrete and in some cases previously applied coatings to ensure a proper bond for the new surface applications.

Methods for concrete surface preparation include shot blasting, diamond grinding, self-leveling, and joint filling.

Our state of the art concrete surface preparation equipment and tooling is supplied by industry-leading manufacturers including Blastrac, SASE Co., and Prepmaster.
Proper surface preparation is an essential process to meet manufacturers’ specifications and ensure a successful installation. Frequently Asked Questions

Can concrete surface preparation be performed during winter months when it is cold?

For most surface preparation projects outside areas should at least be hoarded to protect from snow. The surface preparation can be completed at temperatures as low as 0 degrees C, with the exception of vapor blasting which is done with a combination of abrasive media and water that cannot freeze.

What is the typical cost to prepare a concrete surface?

Each type of concrete surface preparation needs to be inspected by our team of experts and CSI is happy to provide a no-cost budget estimate for any project.

Once reviewed, a recommendation will be given based on what the intended purpose is, the condition of the surface, its location, and its size. Special considerations such as noise restrictions and allowable hours of work will also be considered.

Does concrete surface preparation create a large amount of dust?

Concrete surface preparation can create dust. Dust is contained by industrial vacuums with HEPA filter systems, separators, and negative air units. CSI is compliant with all environmental legislation regarding this issue and has developed a comprehensive Silica Control Policy in conjunction with our overall Health and Safety Program.
